Screening of Mail and Parcel

Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in mail and parcel pose a unique challenge to X-ray screeners as specific triggering mechanisms are used, which are activated upon opening. This is why, CASRA developed a computer-based training to enhance the X-ray image interpretation performance of mail screeners, based on scientific studies. Using mail-specific containers and threats allows the screeners to train their image interpretation competency specific to the challenge. In addition, we provide a mail specific competency assessment test, the X-Ray Competency Assessment Test Mail.
