Screening of Cargo to Secure the Supply Chain
A terrorist attack in the field of cargo could highly affect the world’s economy, commerce or the global supply chain. Therefore, cargo must be secured during the whole supply chain, from production to final delivery.
In cargo screening, the interpretation of cargo X-ray images is a very challenging task: The job is to detect proportionally small threat items that do not belong in the large shipping containers. CASRA developed a computer-based training (CBT) system to support cargo screeners in their task and enhance the X-ray image interpretation competency of cargo screeners. In our CBT, screening officers are exposed to threat and other prohibited objects that they usually do not encounter in everyday life, such as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and are trained to recognize those objects from different viewpoints.

Example Use Case: DHL Bulgaria
DHL Express Bulgaria’s airfreight hub belongs to one of the world’s leading postal and logistics companies “Deutsche Post DHL”. In order to increase the quality of X-ray screening at DHL Express Bulgaria, they have worked with CASRA since 2013 to train and test the competences of their X-ray operators. In the course of the years, they have used the X-Ray Tutor and the X-Ray CAT for operators evaluating images of cargo, mail and parcels.
